Organised in cooperation with the European Building and Wood Workers Federation (EFBWW) and Film Director, Isabel Andrés Portí, MEP Per Clausen invites to a film screening and debate in the European Parliament.
About the Film – Asbestos, Moral Fiber
The unexpected death of the director’s father becomes the personal and emotional starting point for a deeply investigative journey. Asbestos, Moral Fiber (original title: La Fibra Sensible) weaves together hidden family histories, legal battles, and the chilling reach of the asbestos lobby. It uncovers a scandal that remains curiously silenced, yet is global, ongoing, and devastating in its impact on public health and the environment.

The event
Although asbestos has been banned in the European Union for nearly two decades, its legacy is far from over. The aftermath continues to affect lives across Europe—quietly, tragically, and often invisibly. Many are shocked to discover just how present asbestos still is in our buildings, homes, schools, and workplaces.
Asbestos is Europe’s silent scandal—and its silent killer. Behind decades of industrial use lies a global public health disaster, and while the material is outlawed, the danger remains embedded in walls, ceilings, and supply chains. Workers are still being exposed. Communities are still suffering. And too often, the voices of the affected are ignored.
This event is a call to acknowledge the past, confront the present, and act for the future. The European Parliament still has tools to protect lives—through stronger enforcement, support for victims, and investment in safe removal. The fight isn’t over.
